YUMMY! INK Eco-friendly Art Mobiles

Baby Sailor on a Crystal Sea, 2009
Custom Eco-friendly Art Mobile for Bethany's daughter

The "Baby Sailor on a Crystal Sea" mobile is my last work. I have been so happy to create this custom order for Bethany's daughter. Inspired by the sea, the tiny boats, the vintage marine photographs I found at Martin's second hand shop in Göttingen (one of my favorite places), and the blue immensity of the ocean. If you want to see more pictures you can visit my Flickr account.

I am working on another mobile to send to London. The request came through Kate from Australia. She wants it as a wedding gift for her friend. I will post some pictures as soon as I have it ready. Meanwhile, I am happily continuing my work on new different styles, developing new green products, following the principle of equilibrium to stay on perfect gravity. Thanks for stopping by. Yours, Mrs. Yummy! Ink ;-)

"In the forests of the North, at the right time of year, the ground blossoms with ripe berries providing a feast for birds and beasts."... That's how she describes her magic world in the above screenprint. I love Annuka's new screenprints. A good vibe and fresh air from the cold Finland. Without doubt... she is one of my favorite illustrators. Don't miss her designs for the Spring / Summer 2009 Marimekko collection.

CLICK & WATCH IT ~ Leo's Song (2007)

Leo's Song from impactist on Vimeo.

The folks from Impactist make me happy many days! Just listen, relax and breath...look at the sky...or close your eyes...

That's the sweet history behind... NEVER GIVE UP.

When a geometric visitor from another planet becomes your new roommate and shares with you the tragic state of its home world, you drop your guitar and see what you can do. We created this piece in response to the accompanying music track we created in honor of a visiting cat named Leo. Process: hand drawn animation All content and audio created by Kelly Meador & Daniel Elwing. Full Audio Track: Impactist - Leo's Song

Stefán Kjartansson - Black Slabbath

A must Print Magazine Article below

Ushered into the ring as “The Heaviest Typeface in the World,” Stefán Kjartansson’s Black Slabbath has earned its title. Kjartansson, an Iceland-born designer who now runs an interactive agency in Atlanta, admits that he bestowed the superlative on the font with a note of hyperbolic humor: Some typefaces may use more ink, but none do so as functionally. Released in February, the design began as an experiment to push the maximum amount of black into white space, yet still carve each character judiciously from its initial block. The letterforms fill spaces with line weights that challenge expected boundaries, push geometric potential, and get as thick as possible before the counters close. When put together, letters become building blocks, modular toys. But Kjartansson maintains that the font’s real success is the rhythm it achieves within such geometric simplicity, its muscle balanced with versatile footwork. The winking play on Ozzy’s metal band wasn’t suggested until the end of the design process, and is merely a happy coincidence: Black Slabbath reverberates with similar intensity and volume. It’s heavy and will not equivocate. ANNA MALSBERGER

Looking In: Robert Frank's The Americans

Opening on January 18th, the National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C., will celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Americans with an exhibition that will examine both the construction of the book and the photographs themselves.

Robert Frank's The Americans (first published in France in 1958 and in the United States in 1959) is widely celebrated as the most important photography book to appear since World War II. Featuring 83 photographs made largely in 1955 and 1956 while Frank traveled the United States, the project looked beneath the surface of American life to reveal a profound sense of alienation, angst, and loneliness. Frank's prescient photographs redefined the icons of America, demonstrating that cars, jukeboxes, gas stations, diners, and even the road itself were telling symbols of contemporary life. Frank's style — distinguished by seemingly loose, casual compositions, often with rough, blurred, out-of-focus foregrounds and tilted horizons — was just as controversial and influential as his subject matter. The exhibition celebrates the 50th anniversary of the publication by presenting all 83 photographs in the order established by the book, accompanied by a detailed examination of the project, its relationship to Frank's earlier work, and its impact on his later art.

"Looking In: Robert Frank's The Americans" will be touring the following US museums:

National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C. January 18 - April 26, 2009
San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, May 17 - August 23, 2009
Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, September 20 - December 27, 2009
